Steven Lee Myers is an author of non-fiction and literary fiction who has written a number of books on a range of topics, including a biography of Vladimir Putin and other Russia-related works, as well as stories of personal discovery.
Steven Lee Myers was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 1959.
He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arizona in 1981, and began freelancing for The Arizona Republic after graduation. He wrote for various publications, and eventually became a regular contributor to The New Yorker in 1987.
In 1996, he left The New Yorker and moved to Moscow, Russia to work as a foreign correspondent for The New York Times.
He spent several years in the Russian capital, which served as the backdrop for much of his non-fiction writing. During this period, he wrote a biography of Russian President Vladimir Putin, entitled “The New Tsar: The Rise and Reign of Vladimir Putin.”
