About the Author
Raziah Ahmed was elected to the position of President of the Senate in the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and has Acted as Her Excellency the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the second woman in the history of Trinidad and Tobago, to hold that position.
In the 10th Republican Parliament, she was also Minister of State in the Ministry of Gender Youth and Child Development, and a member of the Child Protection Task Force, Trinidad and Tobago, 2014. Raziah was Co-Chair of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Public Accounts Steering Committee at Westminster, London.
She was instrumental in getting legislative amendments to the Parliament to ensure the establishment of the Children's Authority in her native country. She also served as Senator under Prime Minister Basdeo Panday, and under Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar.
